Jerry,

You have to create a special "service user" that is identical (user name and
password) in both the AS400 and the Windows Network domain controller. You
can tailor the password to use all caps in both environments. On the
iSeries, create the profile with initial program *SIGNOFF so that is cannot
be used for starting a session.

Once you have the profiles created, use the QSYGETPH api to retrieve your
*CURRENT (so you can switch back to the original profile before exiting) and
"service_prf". Then swap the program to the handle returned by service_prf
with the QWTSETP api. This makes your job apper to QNTC as if it was run by
service_prf, which should be recognized by the Windows domain as a valid
user. If the domain confirms that service_prf is authorized to access a
share, then you're ready to move files.

Subject: Using QNTC and passwords

We want to use the QNTC facility to write files directly onto a Win2K file
server. The documentation talks about having to get the passwords to match.

That doesn't really work for me because the Win2K box requires mixed case
passwords greater than 10 chars while the AS400 is using QPWDLVL 0 so I can
never get the passwords to sync.

(The LAN folk aren't interested in allowing an AS400 password and IT is not
interested in moving to QPWDLVL 1.).

So...this must be a common issue that has already been addressed. In FTP I
specify the userid/pw to whatever I need. How is this done with QNTC?

Additionally, is it the same for QOPENSYS (Unix file systems)?

Ultimately I want do drive the writing of files to the Win2K box from a
batch CL
process so there will be no operator intervention required.

TIA,

Jerry Draper
