The main reason is that there were 50-1 number of S/36 installed compared to the S/38 or the AS/400. The S/36 remains the most popular computer IBM ever sold.
The S/36EE remains a very smart move on their part. It has allowed the 400 to continue on for a great many customers.
Why then is S36EE still available on V5R2?...
It's always amazed me that they discontinue support on certain levels of the OS, yet irregardless, maintain support of a 25 year old operating environment.
