Here is something that has been troubling me for a long time. I have been using Query to create information and then download to a PC via excel for a long time now. But every time I create a field using "Define result fields," when I download that field, it always comes across in hex from. All the data that was directly taking form the source file(s) looks great, the field created by use "Define result fields" option are messed up.

Example: Data in the field "SomeDat" is a char length of 6 (MMDDYY)- 042904. Our example query brings "SomeDat" over as is, we get 042904 in excel. But if want to format the date so it make sense (YYMMDD) for sorts, one should be able to do some SUBSTRs and ||s and get something like 04/04/29. Viewing the file using DSPPFM, data looks great. But, after downloading via excel we end up with F0F461F0F461F2F9. I have been dealing with this for years. Anyone have any ideas one this. FYI - get the same problem when downloading the file straight into a CVS format.

Thanks for any help,
Joe Lewis
