We used to have a similar situation. We would get a message like "Save history area for document library objects is full." All of the documents were backed up successfully though and we would get the "xxxxxx document library objects saved" message. IIRC RTVDSKINF would blow up due to the number of documents. The properties query may run for hours, but it should work.
