Oh, an 6501, a grandpa is going to retire :-) The 6534 is considerably faster as well as the utlrium drive should be.
Thanks, Philipp. The current IPL device is a 3490E and it's attached to a 6501 card in the IPL slot on bus 0. I need to replace the 6501 with a new 6534 card and move the 6501 to a vacant slot on another bus. We're retaining the 3490E in order to be able to read our existing tapes.

Hi Wayne, I think with a series 7xx system the IPL devices have to be on bus 0 but I can be wrong .... This should not be a problem if you are just exchanging controllers in the same slot, though.
HTH, Philipp

We purchased a new Ultrium tape library and I need to swap tape controller cards to make it the alternate IPL device. I've watched the CE do this enough times but I wanted to confirm that I just need to turn autconfig on and IPL in manual mode, go in to DST and add the hardware. Anyone else attempted this and could offer some tips?
