Mike,

Much like people save their data file libraries at year end and don't 
think to save their program file libraries to actually be able to use it, 
if they need it; you are in the same boat.

Perhaps you should detach journals prior to an upgrade and reattach them 
afterwards.  Saving a copy of the data files without saving members, like:
SAVOBJ OBJ(DSKSUM) 
       LIB(ROUTINES) 
       DEV(*SAVF) 
       OBJTYPE(*FILE) 
       SAVF(ROB/ROB) 
       FILEMBR((*ALL *NONE))
