A couple of quick thoughts ... My experience has shown that most network admins know nothing about the AS/400. Therefore, any AS/400 configurations will need to be handled by the AS/400 Admin. Plus, we tend to use different words to describe the same thing (e.g, hops vs. default routers), so the more familiar you are with network terms, the better you will be able to communicate. Network admins are also notorious for suffering from the "not my problem" syndrome. The more you know about networks in general, and your particular network, the better off you'll be when it comes to troubleshooting.
