I probably only need to mention a major obvious one... Scanning on a PC 
requires that the object be scanned in the PC's memory. I.e., the object will 
traverse the network in order to be scanned. An awful lot of AS/400s have a 
single NIC, and network bandwidth might be an issue especially for those who 
are economically forced to do it this way. If the volume is small or sufficient 
off-hours time exists, probably no big deal.

For this issue, the inclusion of the network component is where things get 
tricky to balance. For my 170 at home with a 10Mbps adapter? It's no problem, 
not yet; I don't have much outside of QSYS.LIB. If I get up past 10GB or so 
that I want to scan, I'm gonna be hurtin'.

That's just a simple physical issue.
