I don't know about Foxpro, but we have a substitute dispatch system that runs on a PC and is connected to the AS/400 database using ODBC. It has been running fine this way for 6-7 years. In Access you can link to AS/400 data files using the link table manager so the tables in Access look like they are "local" to Access. I don't know if Foxpro has such a thing though.
