The platters come in 1.3, 2.6, and 5.2 GB sizes.  Respectively, IBM 
calls them 2x, 4x and 8x.  The two main considerations when deciding on 
WORM or rewritable are the permanence of the record and the speed at 
which it writes.  Writing to a WORM drive is considerably slower than 
writing to a rewritable drive.  WORM drives would be considered more of 
a permanent record than the rewrtable, but still not of archival quality.

We have a 4x drive and an 8x drive.  The 8x drive can read 4x platters, 
but the 4x drive cannot read the higher density ones.
