Extract from ms access database

Is there a way to create a process that runs on the 400 that can extract
data directly from an access data base based on some selection criteria (of
access data base) which can then be used to update data on the 400? (I know
we could create a process on the network to export a file which could be
imported to and processed by the 400 but we would prefer to run the entire
thing on the 400 if possible) Thanks
