Record format problem!

Hi folks,

I have a PF "MF.ST4" whose record format is RECFMT...
While  I was running a  query 
RUNQRY     QRY(YGSC/YZ88) QRYFILE((QS36F/MF.STM4))    

      OUTTYPE(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(QS36F/Z88)

got an error saying that  "Format MF.STM4 not found in
file MF.STM4  in QS36F." 
Found that the file MF.STM4 was  last changed
yesterday  by some one.  

Changed record format in query YZ88 to RECFMT(orignal
one) and ran it .It ran successfully.

Iam investigating  and I came to knoe that some one
has recreated the file MF.STM4.
But why does the old one have a record format of
MF.STM4 and not RECFMT ?
