You can do a CHGPF, specifying the changed dds source and it will do the conversion for you (as long as you aren't changing an existing field attribute from numeric to alpha or visa versa). r ------original message---------- I suppose that adding a field to a file using SQL to alter the table is 'better' than changing the DDS and recompiling the file, then migrating the data...
