For the sake of those it may help, Scott Klement (et.al)'s
TN5250 emulator on Win XP works great, and it's stable. It's
short on bells and whistles, they just get in my way anyway,
but it works fine and it's Open Source and contributable.

The printer emulation was easier to figure out than with
Client Access. For file transfer I just use FTP scripts. (No
ODBC driver or APIs until the contribution is made).
