You need to configure your printer as an IPDS printer. This allows
the system to download the overlay separately from the variable data.
The overlay is cached on the printer, and is merged with every page.
Front and back-side overlays can be used.
IPDS usually requires an interface box; most printers can't
understand the data stream.
Most directly attached laser printers can be fed an AFP data stream.
This is basically a bit map of each page. The AS/400-iSeries builds
the bit map for each page, then sends it to the printer. More
overhead, both on the system and the network.
