starting out with sub-procedures: 
 
OK, Buck, good suggestion. Its not that I haven't started down this path a
dozen times already, but what the hey, one of these times the light bulb may
light up.
 
Here's a simple piece of code I use a lot. How would one make it a simple
procedure that will be simpler, clearer, more efficient, and all of the
other good stuff people talk about.
