appending spool files

To any old timers out there.
 
On the S/36 you used to be able to have a parm that said . (Keep) or
something like that.
Then the next program in line could have its printed output append to
the previous.
This could go on until you had all that you required and then you give a
parm of (END) or similar.
 
Can something like this be done on the AS/400. I have not found anything
that looks comparable.    
 
I want to combine more than one report and then turn it into a single
pdf for e-mail, not multiple attachments.
 
Any help or just the fact that there are others as old as I am that
remember some of this stuff.
