Interesting.  Iirc, and I'm pretty sure I do, the 38 CL wasn't like this
a-TALL.  In fact, docs used to say (and mebbe still do) that one of
ADVANTAGES of CL over other ordinary job control languages was that it was
compiled (in true sense of word).  Dunno when that theory changed.
