Record blocking has been around since at least the System/3 days of RPG
II. I learned it 30 years ago at my first programming class at the IBM
branch.
IIRC, BLOCK(*YES) was available for the first release of the OS for the
System/38. Maybe some of the other greybeards can confirm this.
