Last "complete" save = last time you did a SAVLIB *NONSYS... Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brunk, Kevin" <> To: <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 10:33 AM Subject: What is a "cumulative" save? In table 51 of the backup/restore manual discussing restoring objects, it notes: Table 51. Restore Procedures for Changed Objects Save Method Description Restore Procedure Cumulative You save all changes since the last complete save operation. "Restoring Changed <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.1?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCL> Objects by Library" <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.1?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCL> in topic 3.9.1.1 <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.1?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCL> Not cumulative You save changes since the last SAVCHGOBJ operation. "Restoring Changed <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.2?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCO> Objects <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.2?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCO> Individually" in <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.2?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCO> topic 3.9.1.2 <http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/qb3ale04/3.9.1.2?DT=200 00404104001#HDRRSTCO> I'm not sure what is meant by "the last complete save operation." Our strategy is, once a week, do a SAVLIB *ALLUSR, and daily to do a SAVCHGOBJ *ALLUSR. In both cases the REFDATE is *SAVLIB. My understanding was that by specifying *SAVLIB, the SAVCHGOBJ was cumulative in the sense that each day was (essentially) the previous days objects plus any new ones that had changed. So, 1) is my understanding of SAVCHGOBJ REFDATE(*SAVLIB) correct, and 2) is it cumulative in the sense that table 51 means it? This has come about as we prepare for our DR test. ==Kevin ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: The information transmitted in this message is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
