If you mean the M36, where the AS/400 has S36 as a "guest"
operating system, and everything looks & feels like a s36 then V4R4 is last
release.

I would suggest they go to a current release, change the user profiles to
Special Environment *S36, leave the system value for special environment
as *none (native), change device naming to *s36.
IBM has not indicated (yet) this *s36 environment will ever go away.
