How to qualify UDF with *SYS naming

When I try the following in STRSQL with *SYS naming:

SELECT library/func1(in1, in2, out1),
func2(in1, in2, out1)
FROM somelib/somefile

I get:

Column XCBA not in specified tables.

Setting *SQL naming works with the following:

SELECT library.func1(in1, in2, out1),
func2(in1, in2, out1)
FROM somelib.somefile

Shouldn't the *SYS syntax work? I'm at V5R1. The functions are SQL 
parameter style
