I remember from one of my V4R5 certification classes (OK, half remember), that some IOP's didn't support hot swapping. I was going to power down to make sure, but what the heck, I have a #21 save, I'll go for it. Thanks Rob & Justin. Art Tostaine, Jr. CCA, Inc. Would look like this. Specify either Physical Location or Resource Name. Physical Location . . . Frame ID: Position: OR Resource Name . . . . . Device Resource Name: DD004 Specify action as 1=Remove device 2=Install device Action to be performed . . . . . . . . . : 1 Press enter. You will see the light next to that drive start blinking. Remove the drive. You should see a successfully removed message. Now, take an 8 again for device concurrent, and enter device resource name DD004, and a 2 to install. Press enter. The light will blink - insert the drive. Wait about 2 mins for the drive to spin up and report to the system. Once that is done, exit the hardware service manager. Do a: 3 - work with disk units 3 - work with disk unit recovery 6 - rebuild disk unit data That's it! Enjoy. jch -----Original Message----- From: Art Tostaine, Jr. [mailto:artjr@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 22, 2003 2:00 PM To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' Subject: Replacing a failed Disk in a Raid Set My Disk config looks like this on my V5R1 270: Resource ASP Unit Type Model Name Status 1 Unprotected 1 6713 074 DD004 DPY/Failed 2 6713 074 DD001 DPY/Unprotected 3 6713 074 DD005 DPY/Unprotected 4 6713 074 DD002 DPY/Unprotected 5 6713 070 DD003 DPY/Unprotected Can I just power down, pop out disk 1, replace it, then power on? Or is there something I need to do in service tools? I've been browsing the backup and recovery guide, but haven't found how to yet. I don't have hardware service on this development machine, so I'm doing this myself. Art Tostaine, Jr. CCA, Inc.
