Actually, despite my fervent objections, the production has the full development tools, (just not any source). The reason it does is that we have an accounting application that has a feature called 'flex lists' that generates RPG on the fly. So the tools for the big box are bought and paid for. I will preface my comments first by saying I am not sure how LPAR affects software licensing. If you move development to a box with LPAR, does the 'P' level go up? This would cost you more money. I think one big reason why shops get a separate box for development is so that they can keep that 'P' level down and pay less for the development tools they need. When we got our new production box, we were able to get 'more power', but drop a 'P' level. Saved bucks all around in that move. Just a thought for you to ponder if you have not already. -- Scott Johnson > -----Original Message----- > From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of rob@xxxxxxxxx > Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2003 2:10 PM > To: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Any con's to getting rid of our development box and just > running it as a partition? > > > Currently we have the following machines: > > 270 - Boss' toy.
