I'm looking at a run book for a bi-sync (can you believe 208 A/B?) process that has the operator dialing and going to data first and then answering a G to the dial now message despite what this CPA message says. It seems that if you wait too long the remote modem will time out. If you do a G first then the AS400 will begin trying to handshake. If you make the go to data within the AS400's timeout value you should be ok.
