I don't see how this helps. It's still a separate statement, so additional inserts could have occurred in-between, and if I put it in the Insert statement it gives me the last value inserted, not the one currently being inserted. Doesn't seem "industrial strength," much like a Select max()+1, then Insert. I hope I'm just missing something here.
