And if you attempt to write or update a DB record with an invalid date, it will fail. But you can use indirect means, such as a DS or basing pointer, to get any value into any memory location. However, if you then attempt to use the data field as a date, it will fail. This is similar to the concept of a decimal data error. In normal usage, the field will always have a valid value. Doug
