It is an art and "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't have to set it up as a remote writer but that is the method that
I'm familiar with when it comes to printing to network printers. The
copier is just another network device with an IP address on our Ethernet
network. My main goal is to get it to work and if that means to do it with
a non-remote writer that's fine with me. I've worked with twinax printers
before as devices but I haven't really dealt with them since probably
somewhere around V4R1.

I forgot to mention it before but was told by the copier service guy that
usually using HP6 emulation works. I don't know if that's relevant since
it seems to handle what I'm sending. I just want the option to control the
drawer default. I did start looking through the archives but our proxy
server has been up and down today and went down while I was searching.
Since the volume of e-mail had been slow today I thought I would go ahead
and post the question anyway. I'll do more searching tomorrow too
(hopefully). I appreciate the input. I'll see what the non-remote options
are too.

Aren't those fun to get set-up; it is an art more
than a science.

You have this set up as a remote writer? ouch. (imho)
Is it physically connected via Ethernet?
At your OS level you could set the device up with the
IP address, and have "much" more flexibility in using
the printer as a device over a remote writer.

I do not recall if that will allow you to do anything after the fact
with regards to your spool files and drawer numbers - but it is
easier to work with.

I would also ask this question, not having worked with that brand,
others I have set-up allow you to configure on the printer an
emulation type ; along with that, even which drawer you want
to be the default IPDS drawer, PC drawer and so on... Just a thought.

Also search the archives, there has been some very good discussion
about IP printing in the past, with links to show you how to
set up and use. Off hand I do not have a link, if no one else
has it handy I will search more tomorrow for it.

Subject: Copier printing

Greetings all,

We recently set up a photocopier for use as a printer. After awhile we
actually got it to work too. There are just a couple of options I would
like to adjust.

By default it wants to pull from drawer 1 (which is loaded with 11x17
paper). I would like it to pull from drawer 3 which has 8.5x11 paper and
holds a lot more paper too. If the drawer is specified in the spool file
it pulls from the correct drawer. This is a bother to do but it works.
Unfortunately, the DRAWER parameter of CHGSPLFA isn't an option for *AFPDS
spool files.

It's a Pitney Bowes DL650 and set up as a remote writer. We are at V5R1.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
