There are a number of alternatives to Webfacing, however most of them require changes to your source which can mean at least dual maintenance of screen presentation if you need to run on green-screens and in a browser. The remainder require a client-side application or Java applet. I am associated with a company called Arterial Software. We have a product called aXes which puts existing green-screen applications in a browser. We do not need to convert your source code so there is no double maintenance. We intercept the 5250 data stream and convert it to XML on the fly. The XML is rendered in the browser using XSLT and CSS. aXes handles DDS and UIM panels and the 5250 graphical extensions. aXes will also use Batch CPW if you set the appropriate configuration value. aXes doesn't need Webfacing or Java either and so require less system resources and less complexity. You can continue to maintain and enhance your application using familiar tools while extending the application to incorporate web specific features. You can read more about the product at our website: <http://www.arterialsoftware.com> You can download a 30-day trial version of the product or try it on-line. You can also link to an iSeries News web-cast in which Jef Sutherland discusses his experiences with aXes and various alternatives. aXes is represented in the USA by Linoma Software <http://www.linomasoftware.com> I know there is a lot of hype surrounding the various 're-facing' applications but you can install aXes in less than 20 minutes, start the aXes server and see your host application rendered in the browser--all without any conversion effort on your part. Please contact Linoma Software or me if you want more information.
