In RPG, try searching for them by their hex value:

     D Quarter         s              1a   Inz(x'B7')
     D Half            s              1a   Inz(x'B8')

     C                   Eval      Pos = %scan(Quarter:Field)

     C                   Eval      Pos = %scan(Half:Field)
