Locking of a Data Area V5R2

Anyone experiencing a problem locking a data area in native high level
programs using V5R2

I have a sequential counter maintained in a data area that seems to
resulting in duplicate values in V5R2. I have been able to rely on the
*LOCK IN and OUT in the past but wonder if V5R2 is possibly allowing too
jobs to obtain the data area value concurrently.
