If you do a SQL create view which selects the appropriate fields and records, and then order and access that view with sql in your RPG program, won't the performance monitor inform you of any indexes you need to build over the physical to enhance performance? I would imagine that an index by the fields used as join fields, then by the order criteria would probably fit the bill quite nicely. Or, were you hoping to access that file using traditional RPG which insists the keys be there before hand?
