Are you aware of Seagate Info Server? Although it does run on wintel server
box(es), it is completely capable of reporting from iSeries resident data,
and provides the familiar CR development tool. I used it in a prior life
push report writing tasks out to departmental super users, in conjunction
with IT maintained views of JD Edwards data. With corporate commitment, it
worked quite well, although designing appropriate SQL views can be time
consuming. Seagate Info has the advantage of making pre-run standard
reports available on demand with no overhead on the iSeries. My experience
was almost 4 years ago now, but I must warn you that Seagate Software
support for the iSeries database was a little less than expert, however the
product itself was superb.
