Given the above statement, this solution might not be what you prefer, but it's 
pretty easy.
Just use DTS from SQL to copy the data to the AS/400.

I am looking for a way to directly access data stored on a MS SQL server.
When I try adding the Relation Data Base Directory Entry (ADDRDBDIRE) then
try to connect using STRSQL and CONNECT TO DATABASENAME I always get a
communication error, SQ30080 Communication error occurred during distributed
database processing.  The user ID and password does exist.  What port should
I use?  Is there a special driver program for the AS400?  Do I need special
software on the SQL Server?  I would really like to embed the SQL directly
into the RPG and not have to copy the data at all.  OS400 V5R1 => SQL 8.0 on
Windows 2000 Server
