However it is naive to think they would drop the rate to levels of lodging only motels and still provide free conference facilities. It stands to reason the resulting facilities charges would need to be passed along in higher conference fees. I happen to have some knowldege of the travel and hospitality industries (both through work and personal connections.) My observations are that it doesn't have to be the way it is. In many cases there is a lot of negotiating room. A large group should have a lot of buying power.
