A couple ideas

1. Can you show the URL on the screen? If so, you can turn on URLs as hotspots - you can even have it look like a button to click. Client Access will run the link. Maybe display the link in a window, where the user can click to go to the website.

The limitation is that the link does not wrap, just like some long links in our email clients. So you are limited to about 72 characters in a window. Also, you need http:// in front.

You could probably also run ftp:// or mailto: or any other known WWW function.

2. If you want the IP address of the PC, you can get it from an API - QDCRDEVD - look it up at this lists's FAQ, there's info there on how to do it.

I'm trying to figure out how to start a task on a PC. Here's the application scenario we'd like to support:

The user performs selects a menu option on the AS/400 (green screen under Client Access), and on the resulting green screen panel, presses a function key. When the function key is pressed, we'd like to cause MS Internet Explorer to start and navigate to a certain URL.(i.e. like "IEXPLORE.EXE http://www.midrange.com";). We'd like the URL to be variable depending upon the user.

I've read information about RUNRMTCMD but the problem is that I want to execute the command on the PC that the green screen is running on and I'm not sure I'll know the IP address of that PC.

Can anyone offer guidance?
