FTP: Command line versus browser

I am using ftp to my iSeries from my W2K dos prompt and it works fine.
And I even use the ftp exit point programs to switch from a dummy user to 
a real iSeries user.

That all works great.

I'd like to try the browser by going to 
ftp://myiseries

I can get this to work fine when using a real iSeries userid.  However 
when I use the same dummy user as listed above it just keeps asking me to 
log in.

What's up?
