It's one thing to make a hot new technology in the nice, safe world of internal systems or even tools, but open it up to the harsh glare of consumer scrutiny, and that's a whole different animal. And since this software is not the finished product we as OS/400 users usually see, it's even more important to get the developers ready for some less than glowing comments. I don't think that was done, and I don't think some of the developers understand the difference between criticism and castigation.
