I've been using starband at the lakehouse for a couple of years, weekends
and summers.

The transfer speed is very good, there's a delay of 1/2 second to a second
on files (such as on web pages) but mostly you don't notice it after a
while.

much much much faster than a modem.

I pay about $60 a month for this. a lifesaver when I need to ftp a file from
work - but be sure to go in and modify ftp block size up to 8k or better (I
use 40k) because with the standard tiny block size, it is as slow as a
modem.

This can be good advice for anyone transferring large files with ftp, even
if you are using cable, t-1, etc.

not much good for Two Fort, though. (I'm SpreyAndPrey, for TFC classic
players out there.)

are pretty slim. Local dial-up is not available and calling an AOL or
similar number will be cost prohibitive.
