If I understand correctly IBM has an underlying layer of software that
attaches to the silicone and has a defined top layer that is understood by
the software people at IBM.  All that is required of any Operating System is
that it attach to that lower layer.  This is what has allowed Version
Upgrades with out recompiling, etc.   I believe that code is called W Code?

I can see that as the languages mature they could all meld and become a new
product that generates identical code, but from wildly different development
tools.  C, C++, Java, COBOL, RPG, CL, and others, could all reside in the
same toolbox.
