That's what I've heard as well. Also, it would appear that IBM is starting thier official shifting from Proprietary to non-proprietary o/s's.... SO, look for your job in the near future to be one running linux and websphere...on a eServer...and iSeries to be a moniker of the past....like AS/400 or 360/20...or breadboards and trimmer pots.... Which is really a big bite, because unix is a SOB when it comes to systems management ESPECIALY DASD management....they have neither clue nor do they want to have a clue on what single level storeage is....and object authority....well.....it's a different world than what you've enjoyed for a LONG time....and we won't even get into user profiles... And if you thought that some utilities that reversed engineered OS/400 user passwords were really nifty, keep in mind that you can download /etc/passwd crackers from almost as many places on the net as you can pictures of Pamela Anderson....:) Also, does anyone have any idea when IBM will start charging for DB/2 on OS/400 like they're doing for DB/2 on the other OS/S's running on "iSeries"....? And when they do, how do they plan on handling big 800 pound Gorilla that EVERYONE is standardizing to - Oracle?!
