IMHO, the interactive tax was a misguided thought that IBM had to try (and
failed) to make people push to client server.  As it made the platform
uncompetitive, IBM dumbed up and did away with it.

One of the smartest guys around (up there with Al "E=mc^2" Einstein)
has argued on this list many a time that the interactive tax was
fundamental to the viability of the AS/400 and that without it,
the AS/400 would not be profitable. A reanalysis of that statement
might be in order, or can we simply assume that the money still
flows to IBM, but now bundled (as Joe asks)?
