Yes, there is more to printing than just generating a report...

Almost all of my customers are now using 10cpi, 8 LPI and 88 LPP.

The saving in paper costs is substantial over time.

The only printer that supported color was a 4224-XXX that I never
saw work. Very few, if any, Injet Printers can do that emulation.

If you want to use color, you will need to learn how to build
hex codes into your printed reports. This method was reported 
by several articles over the years in News/400 and Midrange 
Computing.

For a FAQ on ascii printing, that would require several hundred
pages and would be out of date before it was finished.

Here is an IBM page on how/what to do with MANY ascii printers
and remains one of the better documents IBM has ever published
on the subject of printing.
