I didn't believe you so I had to check.  You're right, (I am not sure
about always worked this way though).

UPDDTA does support this.  However you can work around this with WRKDBF,
(and probably other utilities).  However using check constraints would be
better.  And would be enforced by WRKDBF and others.

Since these constraints can be built into the SQL script to create a file,
I argue that this would be better than having to rely upon a make utility
to compile DDS and then add the constraints.

UPDDTA does the same thing (and as far as I recall always did).  If I
code DDS validity checks in a database file definition they will be used
by the display screen generated by DFU.  UPDDTA is intended for quick and
dirty fixes but still imposes DDS validity checks.  If you want more
control then you must create a permanent DFU.  You can save the generated
DDS and edit it.  Then create a DFU display file using the CRTDFUDSPF
command.
