To add, I start with the CODE Project Organizer - the new Java-based interface is just not ready enough, IMO and for my needs. So I either start from the CODE Projects folder that'll appear on your desktop, or got to Start->Run... and type in CODEPROJ and press Enter. It uses fewer resources on your PC, too. What is called subsetting in PDM is called filters in CODE and gave me fits for a while, but finally are manageable. Vern At 01:49 PM 11/26/2002 -0600, you wrote:
I use VPN - no problem. I DO find that it is best to start the CODE server on a 400 session - the other way has given me too many fits. The command is STRCODE, and it works well to have the command resolve your IP address (one of the parameters). I'm both a newbie and a many-times-frustrated many-times-attempted-user. But we are using it now, and it has some nice benefits. There are a couple very excellent tutorials. Go to http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ad/wdt400/education/course_downloads.html and look around. You will want to get the codelab.sav and codelabadm.sav items first, to install on your iSeries. For CODE and the debugger (which is really quite nice) there are versions both for the older client (WDT v5.1) and the newer client (WDSC v4.0). There are presentation foils, as well as labs. Very helpful. HTH Vern At 10:51 AM 11/26/2002 -0500, you wrote:I guess I should ask one more thing. I connect to this as/400 from home through a VPN. I have not tried to connect from code yet. if I can connect via tcpip / 5250 telnet from home will code connect with no problem too? does it use different ports that may not be open to me from home? please keep in mind, i'm 'networking challenged' thanks rick
