Hi, Vern: No, that's correct. The -f flag tells tail to hang in there until ^C is pressed. It's kind of cool, as mentioned, for watching logs. Imagine a self-refreshing DSPMSG display, for example, and you might begin to see the benefit. Or assume there's a file that logs everytime someone logs in, and you want to know (or, more to the point, want a program to know) when a particular user logs in.
