Hi, Uros:

There are a number of ways to do this, some of which involve the Retrieve
File Description API, but here's a simple one.

Looks like you're using ILE RPG, so....

(These columns are not aligned because I'm lazy.) :)

Define a Data Structure using your file as a base:
D RECDS E DS EXTNAME(YOUR_FILE_NAME)

Now, get the size of the data structure:
C Eval LENGTH1 = %Size(RECDS)

Subject: Record format or file or data structure length retrieval in ILE
       RPG V4R5M0

Hi,

can someone tell me a simple way to retrieve the length of either a file or
record format or a data structure in V4R5M0? I've tried several
combinations of %len and %size on all 3 things and nothing has worked.

Regards,

Uros
