We have found that replacing the batteries in UPS are very cost
effective. We pop open the UPS case, and take out a sample battery
(they usually have more than one). The best source I have found for UPS
batteries (and most any other type) is Batteries Plus (I am pretty sure
they are a national chain). They have NEVER let us down. Also, set up
a corporate account with them. We get a 50% discount on purchased on
our corporate account compared to the guy off the street who walks in.
I just replaced the batteries in several 1400kVa unit for about 70 bucks
apiece.

Yes, I've seen this before. At a previous employer we had just one of
the eight batteries in our UPS go bad and every time there was a power
outage the AS/400 would crash immediately. That one bad battery
prevented the UPS from maintaining the system power for more than just a
very few seconds.

Given the price of the replacement batteries, you may be just as well
off to buy a whole new UPS rather than replacing the batteries in the
old one. I'd get a quote both way to determine which is more cost
effective.

I have a situation where there are two AS400's on a UPS and they both
blinked and shutdown at the same time. The BP says that the batteries
are dead and the best option is to replace the UPS. Sorry I don't have
more details yet.

Anyone heard of this?

Jerry
