Be forewarned, the V5R1/V5R2 *NTP support on STRTCPSVR is for maintenance
of the software clock (see System APIs under the Unix-type category) and
not the system clock (which provides QTIME). Due to problems when making
backward time changes to the system clock (see some recent notes on this)
the current SNTP client (which is what is used by STRTCPSVR) does not
maintain QTIME. There are however other SNTP clients available which do
maintain QTIME (also mentioned in earlier notes on this subject).

There have been many requests (and more are not needed) for the STRTCPSVR
*NTP support to provide system clock maintenance as very few software
products use the software clock APIs.

Hi Joe,
I've had a quick look at NTP ... but I didn't see any
reference to
an iSeries interface ...
... but wait ... my STRTCPSVR command has an *NTP value ! Perhaps this may
be worth investigating further.

I'm sure such a gadget exists, Jeff, but you might also be interested in
Network Time Protocol, or NTP. This is a simple Internet service that
allows time synchronization:
