If you read the glowing testimonials about V5R2 you'll see my boss' comment regarding the niceties of type2 directories. It's automatic in V5R2 and PTF'd to V5R1. I noticed a big difference in the WRKLNK on my small system. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/index.htm?info/rzaia/rzaiawhatsnew.htm http://www-912.ibm.com/n_dir/nas4apar.NSF/5f8e526242913b1a86256a880049555b/8ec569406141de0786256b5700420f74?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,II13161 ------------------------- Bryan Dietz 3X Corporation 614-410-9205 ================================== Or in a separate area for path name, with a pointer in OIR to it, maybe. Run the DMP command against a stream file - there's a path name section at the end. I assume it theoretically can be as long as a segment - 16mb - 4kb (some fudge factor I forget what size) BTW, I think DMP is kind of fun - it shows you the associtaed space stuff that is kept for stream files, just as is done for all 400 objects. That's probably what contributes sometimes to larger sizes for IFS objects - the associated space stuff traverses some boundary. But you DO get to see the actual data, unlike DMPOBJ on a physical file, where the dataspace is never shown. I'd hate to see the spooled output for one of your 4gig objects! <vbg> Regards Vern _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
